Eric’s practice concentrates in the defense of civil litigation cases including professional liability, employment practices liability, public entity liability and personal injury cases. Eric has defended business professionals in individual and class action cases including attorneys, accountants, directors and officers, architects and engineers, fiduciaries, mortgage brokers, real estate brokers, real estate management firms, credit reporting services, insurance agencies, auctioneers, appraisers, premium finance companies, trade publications, public adjusters, market research companies and surveyors. Eric also represents lawyers in disciplinary matters before the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. Eric has represented clients in state administrative agencies as well as state and federal courts at the trial and appellate level in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, California, Kentucky, Ohio, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan. Eric is licensed to practice in Illinois and Wisconsin. Eric’s clients include insurance companies and third party administrators as well as businesses throughout the country. 

Since the Illinois Supreme Court’s decision in Rosenbach v. Six Flags Entertainment Corp., Eric has and is currently representing defendants in multiple class action cases seeking injunctive relief and monetary damages for alleged violations of the Biometric Information Privacy Act (“BIPA”).

Dean J. Papadakis is a founder of Kaplan Papadakis & Gournis, P.C., and chair of its Commercial Real Estate Department. An experienced real estate attorney, over the past 25+ years. Dean has served as lead counsel to multiple retailers in connection with their national expansion, as well as a trusted advisor to numerous landowners in furtherance of their leasing and development needs. This unique background provides clients with a sagacious legal practitioner who is committed to imparting both seasoned legal advice and pragmatic business solutions. Dean’s real estate practice focuses on a wide variety of commercial transactions, with particular emphases on leasing, acquisition, development, and divestiture. Dean helps clients with negotiation, strategy, legal structuring, and documentation of various related agreements.

The following is a list of representative transactions for which Dean served as lead counsel:

  • Represented a physical therapy clinic with 900+ locations over the past 10+ years. Drafted/negotiated leases, amendments, and related documents in furtherance of its national roll-out, and counseled company on non-transactional matters related to its leases.
  • Represented the owner of a Chicago-area industrial portfolio with 4.675 million square feet of space. Drafted/negotiated leases, amendments, and related documents, and counseled company on litigation matters related the portfolio.
  • Represented the owner of a national urgent care clinic with 50+ locations, and negotiated leases, amendments, and other related documents on its behalf.
  • Represented a national real estate company with $4.3B of current assets under management in connection with its office leases, amendments, and ancillary documents related thereto. Counseled company on all lease related matters, and oversaw litigation.
  • Represented numerous franchisees of a national fitness studio with 1,400+ locations.
  • Represented numerous Chicagoland real estate developers in connection with their acquisition, development, redevelopment, and divestiture of retail properties.
  • Negotiated various ground leases, build-to-suit leases, and retail leases regarding several national tenants, some of which include: Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Fifth Third Bank, Starbucks, ATI Physical Therapy, McDonalds, Jared’s Jewelers, Arby’s, Valvoline, Boston Market, Chipotle, Culvers, Five Guys, Sports Clips, Q’doba, Jimmy Johns, Jersey Mikes, Subway, Potbelly, Verizon, Noodles & Co., Crumbles Cookies, Fast Pace Health, Planet Fitness, Circulo Health, US Renal, Family Care Center, and Oak Street Health.
  • Represented an investment group in the acquisition and redevelopment of an 80,000 square foot office building in the greater Chicagoland area.
  • Represented a private equity firm in its acquisition of a grocery related wholesaler’s distribution headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
  • Represented a client investment group in its acquisition, redevelopment, and divestiture of numerous BP and Burger King sites in Illinois and Indiana as part of a portfolio acquisition.
  • Represented a client investment group and helped secure TIF funds used for the redevelopment a former Walgreens into an Oak Street Health Medical Center in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

Chris S. Wunder


Chris S. Wunder is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on professional liability defense (with an emphasis on legal malpractice defense), employment defense, civil rights defense, commercial litigation, and construction/mechanics lien litigation.

Chris has obtained numerous favorable results for his clients in state and federal courts as well as proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), and disciplinary proceedings before the Illinois Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission (ARDC).

Despite his extensive litigation experience, Chris recognizes that protracted litigation through trial is the last resort to resolve most disputes. As a result, he always looks to resolve cases through mediation or settlement when it is beneficial to the client.

Chris was named an Illinois Super Lawyer-Rising Star for professional liability defense for 2013-2018 and an Illinois Super Lawyer for professional liability defense for 2019-2022.

When not practicing law, Chris spends his time shuttling his two daughters to various activities around Naperville and the western suburbs of Chicago. He also likes to explore the town (and area breweries) with his family.


Judicial Evaluation Committee (JEC) for the Chicago Bar Association. In this role, Chris investigates and evaluates the qualifications of judicial candidates for office, whether through nomination, election, appointment, or retention.
